That someone, for as long as I can remember, was my mother.
She had a gift for it. Every birthday, every holiday, every gathering was an occasion worth doing properly — the right snacks, the right wine, guests who always talked about the over the top goodie bags. She made it look effortless, and I watched closely enough to understand that effortless is actually the hardest thing to pull off.
Without either of us realizing it, she was passing something down. The instinct to anticipate. The habit of noticing. The belief that the details aren’t small — they’re the whole point.
Over years of coordinating family travel, managing celebrations, and handling the beautiful chaos that comes with big occasions and even bigger personalities, what started as an inherited love became a practiced skill.
